Este libro presenta un modelo replicable de teleconsulta multidisciplinaria, diseñado e implementado por Global Health Telemedicine, que ofrece beneficios de salud muy significativos en áreas remotas y rurales de países en desarrollo. El modelo se basa en las experiencias adquiridas en el África subsahariana durante la formación y la cooperación con profesionales sanitarios locales en el marco del programa DREAM, gestionado por la Comunidad de Sant''Egidio. Hasta la fecha, este programa ha tratado a casi 300.000 pacientes en muchos países y ha brindado educación sanitaria y capacitación en prevención de enfermedades a decenas de millones. Se originó en el contexto de la lucha contra el SIDA, pero se ha ampliado para abarcar otras patologías y explotar las capacidades de las nuevas tecnologías de telemedicina que permiten la teleconsulta multiespecialista (de ahí que el acrónimo ahora represente "Alivio de la enfermedad a través de medios excelentes y avanzados"). Además de una descripción detallada del programa, los lectores encontrarán reflexiones y análisis sobre cuestiones logísticas, técnicas, sociológicas y epidemiológicas. El libro está dividido en capítulos temáticos con gráficos fáciles de entender. Será una fuente de información de fácil acceso para los profesionales de la cooperación internacional y los estudiantes y profesionales de la salud global. |

This book presents a replicable model of multidisciplinary teleconsultation, designed and set up by Global Health Telemedicine, that offers very significant health benefits in remote and rural areas of developing countries. The model is based on experiences gained in sub-Saharan Africa while training and cooperating with local health professionals within the DREAM program, managed by the Community of Sant'Egidio. This program has to date treated almost 300,000 patients across many countries and has provided health education and disease prevention training to tens of millions. It originated in the context of the fight against AIDS but has been extended to encompass other pathologies and to exploit the capabilities of new telemedicine technologies that allow multispecialist teleconsultation (hence the acronym now represents "Disease Relief through Excellent and Advanced Means"). In addition to thorough description of the program, readers will find reflections and analysis on logistical, technical, sociological, and epidemiological issues. The book is divided into thematic chapters with easy-to-understand graphics. It will be a readily accessible source of information for professionals in international cooperation and global health students and professionals. |
