Desde el declive de la ganadería tradicional hasta el surgimiento de la agricultura intensiva y la innovación biotecnológica de la carne in vitro, en los últimos cien años se han visto cambios dramáticos en la producción de carne. El consumo de carne ha aumentado sustancialmente, incitando al surgimiento de nuevas formas de subjetividad política, como el rechazo radical de la producción de carne en el veganismo.
