Este volumen proporciona el primer estudio de las conexiones inexploradas entre la obra de Maquiavelo y el mundo islámico, desde las raÃces árabes de El PrÃncipe hasta sus primeras traducciones al turco y al árabe otomano. Investiga descripciones comparativas de pueblos no europeos, representaciones renacentistas de Mahoma y la disciplina militar otomana, un tratado jesuita en persa para un emperador mogol, lectores peculiares desde Brasil hasta la India y las vidas paralelas de Maquiavelo y el burócrata CelÄlzÄde Muá¹£á¹afá. Diez distinguidos académicos analizan los antecedentes, la circulación y la recepción de los escritos de Maquiavelo, centrándose en muchos aspectos del intercambio mutuo de teorÃas y gramáticas polÃticas entre Oriente y Occidente. Una contribución significativa a los intentos de los estudiosos actuales de desafiar cualquier separación rÃgida dentro de Eurasia, este volumen restaura la sensación de la difusión global de libros, ideas y hombres en el pasado. . |

This volume provides the first survey of the unexplored connections between Machiavelli's work and the Islamic world, running from the Arabic roots of The Prince to its first translations into Ottoman Turkish and Arabic. It investigates comparative descriptions of non-European peoples, Renaissance representations of Muḥammad and the Ottoman military discipline, a Jesuit treatise in Persian for a Mughal emperor, peculiar readers from Brazil to India, and the parallel lives of Machiavelli and the bureaucrat CelÄlzÄde Muá¹£á¹afá. Ten distinguished scholars analyse the backgrounds, circulation and reception of Machiavelli's writings, focusing on many aspects of the mutual exchange of political theories and grammars between East and West. A significant contribution to attempts by current scholarship to challenge any rigid separation within Eurasia, this volume restores a sense of the global spreading of books, ideas and men in the past. . |
