Mencionemos sólo dos de las razones más importantes. Se le pide que haga algo y, al hacerlo y reflexionar, obtendrá experiencia de primera mano sobre nuevos enfoques y materiales. De esta manera, podrá aprender a enseñar matemáticas aplicables a sus alumnos utilizando su propia experiencia como estudiantes de matemáticas aplicables, motivados y respaldados por el libro. Aquí la educación matemática aplicable es la frase que utilizamos para describir la educación matemática basada en la realidad. Las matemáticas basadas en la realidad dependen en gran medida de la resolución de problemas y de una disposición positiva para involucrarse con las matemáticas. Modelar la realidad y simular aspectos seleccionados de la realidad son otros pilares de la educación matemática basada en la realidad.
