Este libro reúne investigaciones actualizadas de destacados académicos internacionales en una exploración colaborativa de los esfuerzos de Japón para dar forma al orden regional en rápido cambio de Asia. Atrapados entre un Estados Unidos cada vez más encerrado en sà mismo, cuyo apoyo a la seguridad sigue siendo fundamental, y una China en ascenso y más asertiva militarmente con quien Japón mantiene una profunda interdependencia económica, los lÃderes japoneses están maniobrando constantemente para garantizar los intereses regionales del paÃs. Las amenazas nucleares y de misiles de Corea del Norte y las relaciones históricamente problemáticas con Corea del Sur complican aún más los esfuerzos japoneses. Pulled between an increasingly inward-looking America whose security support remains critical and a rising and more militarily assertive China with whom Japan retains deep economic interdependence, Japanese leaders are consistently maneuvering to ensure the country's regional interests. Nuclear and missile threats from North Korea and historically problematic relations with South Korea further complicate Japanese endeavors.
