Este libro historiza el debate sobre cómo los regímenes democráticos abordan los grupos antidemocráticos de la sociedad. Las democracias de todo el mundo se encuentran cada vez más amenazadas por enemigos, desde terroristas hasta partidos y movimientos que socavan las instituciones democráticas desde dentro. Esta recopilación de ensayos proporciona la primera exploración histórica de cómo las democracias han lidiado con fuerzas antidemocráticas entre ellas y cómo esto impactó en lo que la democracia significaba para todos los involucrados. Desde sus inicios en el siglo XIX, la política democrática moderna ha incluido debates fundamentales sobre si es antidemocrático y peligroso prohibir partidos con objetivos antidemocráticos y si las democracias deberían defenderse, si es necesario con violencia, contra fuerzas percibidas como antidemocráticas. Este volumen muestra que las concepciones implícitas de la democracia y los repertorios democráticos se vuelven explícitas, fluidas y cuestionadas a lo largo de estas confrontaciones, no sólo dentro de los partidos democráticos, sino también entre sus adversarios. En ocasiones, ambas partes han utilizado la fuerza o limitado la expresión de ideas, borrando así la línea entre quién es democrático y quién no. . |
