Los capÃtulos comienzan enmarcando los temas especÃficos discutidos en el libro y elaborando la "zona" fronteriza entre los significados individuales y colectivos-sociales. Los capÃtulos siguientes y una conclusión final analizan la CPSC como una empresa conceptual abstractiva. El libro está dividido en secciones, cada una de las cuales comienza con un capÃtulo escrito por Jaan Valsiner. Las secciones individuales se centran en (I) la naturaleza de la psique como un proceso constructivo semiótico; (II) la primacÃa del afecto como procesos constructivos semióticos, destacando el papel de lo sublime como frontera entre la experiencia mundana y estética; y (III) el núcleo ambivalente de la mente humana, marcado por la semiosis constructiva y destructiva para encontrar lo sublime como lugar de emergencia de la novedad. Ambos están integrados en los intercambios con el medio social y cultural y, por lo tanto, su teorización se ha basado en ideas clave de Lev Vygotsky, Frederic Bartlett y Mikhail Bakhtin.
