Este libro revisa las diferentes teorías y modelos que buscan explicar las causas de la depresión desde diferentes perspectivas, desde el nivel molecular hasta el sociocultural. La depresión es un constructo psicopatológico complejo y de alta heterogeneidad fenotípica, que debe entenderse como un fenómeno en el que interactúan entre sí diferentes niveles explicativos. Sin embargo, se sabe muy poco sobre esta interacción. El objetivo de este libro es proporcionar a los psicólogos clínicos y psiquiatras un mejor conocimiento de la interacción de los diferentes niveles etiopatogénicos, con el fin de ayudar a estos profesionales a tomar mejores decisiones terapéuticas en el tratamiento de pacientes deprimidos. Los capítulos de este volumen revisan las teorías y modelos etiopatogénicos de la depresión desarrollados por diferentes disciplinas y campos de investigación, como la psicología clínica, la psiquiatría, la genética, la neurobiología, la psicofisiología, la psiconeuroendocrinología y los estudios psicosociales, y examinan ciertas condiciones donde la consideración integrada de diferentes niveles explicativos ilumina cómo se origina y se mantiene la depresión. En cada capítulo, los autores revisan críticamente el estado del arte en su campo de especialización y explican los puntos débiles de sus propias teorías y su posible apertura o conexión con teorías o modelos alternativos. Teorías y modelos etiopatogénicos en la depresión serán un recurso valioso para psicólogos clínicos, psiquiatras y otros profesionales de la salud que trabajan con pacientes deprimidos, así como para investigadores que investigan cómo se origina y se mantiene la depresión, presentando una perspectiva integrada de alto valor traslacional para la práctica clínica. |

This book reviews the different theories and models that seek to explain the causes of depression from different perspectives, from the molecular to the socio-cultural level. Depression is a complex psychopathological construct of high phenotypic heterogeneity, which must be understood as a phenomenon in which different explanatory levels interact with each other. However, very little is known about this interaction. The aim of this book is to provide clinical psychologists and psychiatrists a better knowledge of the interaction of different etiopathogenic levels, in order to help these professionals make better therapeutic decisions when treating depressed patients. Chapters in this volume review etiopathogenic theories and models of depression developed by different disciplines and fields of research, such as clinical psychology, psychiatry, genetics, neurobiology, psychophisiology, psychoneuroendocrinology and psychosocial studies, and examine certain conditions where theintegrated consideration of different explanatory levels illuminates how depression originates and is maintained. In each chapter, authors critically review the state of the art in their field of expertise and explain the weak points of their own theories and their possible openness or connection to alternative theories or models. Etiopathogenic Theories and Models in Depression will be a valuable resource for clinical psychologists, psychiatrists and other health professionals working with depressed patients, as well as to researchers investigating how depression originates and is maintained, presenting an integrated perspective of high translational value for clinical practice. |
