Este libro se centra en los grupos de mamÃferos marinos Otariidae y Odobenidae, también conocidos como lobos marinos, leones marinos y morsas. En 30 capÃtulos, más de 60 autores de 30 instituciones y 13 nacionalidades discuten un amplio conjunto de temas, desde el cuidado materno y el comportamiento de apareamiento, pasando por el juego, la cognición y la personalidad, hasta la adaptación a la vida en el Antropoceno. Los autores exploran los comportamientos que han permitido a estos mamÃferos semiacuáticos prosperar en el ámbito marino. Muchas poblaciones se han recuperado tras la aniquilación histórica, con interesantes consecuencias evolutivas que se exploran. También se proporcionan descripciones detalladas, seleccionadas e individuales de especies, que muestran la diversidad de comportamiento de este grupo de mamÃferos marinos atractivo, adaptable y de gran éxito. |
