Aunque los estuarios sólo cubren una porción muy pequeña de la hidrosfera terrestre, son algunas de las regiones biogeoquímicamente más activas entre los cuerpos de agua globales. Como tal, este libro se centra en los estuarios de la costa este de la India hasta la Bahía de Bengala, que es el mayor aporte de agua dulce del mundo proveniente de ríos perennes y estuarios de secano y, por lo tanto, es un área de estudio única. A través de su cobertura única de la Bahía de Bengala en particular, el libro presenta una nueva perspectiva que no está presente en la literatura sobre biogeoquímica de estuarios y dinámica de ecosistemas.
