Este libro, a través de un análisis de estudios de caso en América Latina y el sudeste asiático, se propone comprender la forma y función de los Estados contemporáneos que buscan guiar y engatusar a los mercados, con la esperanza de estimular el crecimiento económico y generar resultados de desarrollo sólidos. En el contexto de la globalización contemporánea y la hegemonÃa de un modo neoliberal de acumulación de capital, el desarrollo independiente dirigido por el Estado se ha alejado del alcance de muchos mercados emergentes. El análisis de Wylde revela que, contrariamente a gran parte de la literatura que defiende el "fin del Estado", el papel del Estado en el proceso de desarrollo del siglo XXI sigue siendo de fundamental importancia. |

This book, through an analysis of case studies in Latin America and Southeast Asia, sets out to understand the form and function of contemporary states seeking to guide and cajole markets, hoping to stimulate economic growth and generate robust development outcomes. In the context of contemporary globalization, and the hegemony of a neoliberal mode of capital accumulation, independent state-directed development has moved away from the reach of many emerging markets. Wylde's analysis reveals that, contrary to much of the literature espousing the 'end of the state', the role of the state in the 21st century development process continues to be of pivotal importance. |
