Resumen: Este volumen de actas tiene como objetivo proporcionar nuevos métodos de investigación, teorías y aplicaciones de diversas áreas de la investigación económica aplicada. Con artículos de la Conferencia Internacional sobre Economía Aplicada (ICOAE) de 2016 organizada por la Universidad de Nicosia y la Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas de Macedonia Occidental, este volumen presenta investigaciones de vanguardia de todas las áreas de la ciencia económica que utilizan la econometría aplicada como método de análisis. También presenta estudios específicos de cada país con análisis y propuestas de políticas económicas específicas. Examining a cross-section of US airline city pairs, Tabacco proposes for the first time that the industry can be understood as a natural oligopoly, each airline market being dominated by one to three airline carriers regardless of market size. The author questions the extent to which airlines deliberately prevent head-to-head competition within city pair markets, and draws intriguing conclusions about competitive forces from the observed market structure. Giovanni Tabacco is Assistant Professor of Economics at Swansea University School of Management, Wales. Prior to this he worked in the Economics Department of the University of Bologna, Italy. Summary : At present, how to develop industries is a burning issue in Africa, where population growth remains high and economic development has thus far failed to provide sufficient jobs for many, especially young people and women. The creation of productive jobs through industrial development ought to be a central issue in steering economic activity across the continent. The authors of this book, consisting of two development economists and five practitioners, argue that the adoption of Kaizen management practices, which originated in Japan and have become widely used by manufacturers in advanced and emerging economies, is decisively the most effective first step for industrial development in Africa. This open access book discusses what Kaizen management is, why it is applicable to Africa, and why it can provide Africa with a springboard for sustainable economic growth and employment generation.
